Description
A Boeing 767, tail number N172DZ, battling winds while landing 27 at Greater Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky International Airport
Background:
This aircraft is the only regular scheduled passenger flight that leaves North America from CVG airport. While it used to be a busy airport, air traffic slow SIGNIFICANTLY since Delta cut us as a hub in 2008. This flight, call sign "Delta 229 Heavy", is the last passenger flight to leave North America and runs daily flights to and from Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport. CVG does however have tons of cargo flights that leave North America on a daily basis, and is a huge source of income to the airport as there are constant flights, mostly at night but some at day, of DHL 767 and other cargo airlines that fly 767s, 757s, and 747s.
This day was one of those few days where the winds are out of the West so they open landings on 27. CVG has an "Airport View Parking Lot" right at the end of runway 27. So on those rare days, i always make my way down to the airport. Some days i can get lucky on those days and see a cargo aircraft, but even when i don't see that i am guaranteed to see Delta 229. This day the winds were all over the place, but generally from around 260-300 degrees and gusting over 20 knots, and the landing Heavy got a little taste of a gust of wind XD.
